Anna discusses dugging up the yard. Refers to sending something to Washington and that Jackson is sending the circulars. She is sending one to Mahany (Roland) Bond Bldg and Miss Gibson. Virgil is collabrating with english people on the radio in Dakota and Wyoming. Decasseres wrote stuff about the Hoe. "It's a great Human Mask". The bank acct is over drawn. Letter is unsigned.

California poet. Raised near Vacaville, became a schoolteacher in Coloma and later in Oakland. Became famous overnight with publication of "The Man with a Hoe," his protest against brutalization of labor, in "San Francisco Examiner" (January 15, 1899). Following this success Markham moved to New York where he scored another triumph with "Lincoln and Other Poems" (1901). He became a well-known reader of his own poems and lecturer of idealistic views, but his creative output for remainder of life ...
